YPCC was formed at Below Zero Lounge in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in November 2011 and is now comprised of a roster of more than 1,200 volunteer singers who live and work throughout greater Cincinnati. Founded by KellyAnn Nelson, YPCC quickly found a niche in the vibrant arts community of downtown Cincinnati and has pioneered a choral model gaining national attention. Singers and audiences alike connect during YPCC’s unique, high-quality concert presentations at unforgettable locations like the Cincinnati Museum Center, Memorial Hall, and The Carnegie and through arts partnerships with arts organizations including the Cincinnati Opera, MUSE, the Cincinnati Pops, Pones, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and more.
YPCC by its definition is a collective—a group of people with different occupations, education, socio-economic backgrounds, beliefs and ages—brought together by a love of singing. We are the largest young professionals choral organization in the nation, and the model is gaining national attention and even inspiring similar organizations such as Denver Choir League.
The organization thrives on a three-pronged intersection of local people, local arts organizations and local businesses. YPCC is committed to attracting and maintaining area young professionals’ interest in the arts and keeping them in the Tri-State area. The YPCC model embraces the busy young professional lifestyle and presents a “choose-your-own-adventure” choral participatory format. There’s truly a place for everyone.
The following are the core elements of YPCC’s artistic format:
YPCC Concert Cycles
This is our signature offering, drawing 75+ singers who love to sing and socialize for 6-8 weeks of Tuesday night rehearsals (and post-rehearsal happy hours!) and culminating with themed concert presentations in iconic Cincinnati spaces.
YPCC Chamber Choir
This is a smaller, auditioned group of 24-32 singers who are looking to rehearse and perform exciting repertoire over a longer period of time (6 months) within a fun “sophisticated and select” community.
YPCC On Call
This is an “on-call” group of singers interested in contracted gigs in the community. Singers learn and keep up-to-date on 12 pieces of standard repertoire at optional Sing-Ins.
